Become a Broker

Do you want to become an independent business person?

Are you skilled at listening and providing advice?

Do you enjoy meeting people and learning about various businesses?

If you answered "Yes" to any of the above questions, then a career as an insurance and/or takaful broker may be of interest to you.

Insurance and/or takaful brokers in Malaysia represent all registered insurance companies and takaful operators, offering a variety of insurance policies to their clients. Broker companies may vary in size, from 15 to over 200 employees. Brokers advise their clients on the best insurance policies to meet their individual needs.

In Malaysia, brokers must be approved by Bank Negara Malaysia under the Financial Services Act 2013 and/or the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013 to conduct business.

While it is not mandatory to have either a university degree or college diploma to pursue this career, to become a broker, you must first be employed as an employee of an insurance and/or takaful broking firm and successfully complete the Basic Certificate Course in Insurance and Takaful Broking (BCCITB) examination conducted by MII. Please contact MITBA for more information.

Training and professional development are ongoing processes. Courses to enhance professionalism and increase your knowledge of the insurance industry are offered through The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and other approved professional insurance institutions worldwide.
